Foodie

yes, yes. i've been idle for what has seemed like forever. but, the excuse is... I'VE MOVED. this girl is officially a DC resident and it's been a crazy transition, one that's not quite complete yet. it's great, and such a change and it probably won't really feel like home for a while but i love it and always knew i would end up living here after college. okay.
back to normal business!
i admit. i follow a plethora of food blogs. and would you believe their highest criteria to sit well with me is the photography? it's a magical thing. photographs can make me crave food that i hate. crazy.
my most-liked of the moment (and newest addition to my blogroll) is the kitchy kitchen. not only does miss claire thomas feature gorgeous photos of delicious treats and dishes, but there are videos! yes, inspiring, creative, well-made, videos -- to some of my favorite recipes blogged. it's a small gesture that matters a great deal to me. total motivation to actually see a short and sweet step-by-step 1-minute clip of how i can go about recreating a recipe. you will love this food blog, i promise.

Light Outside

Wakey!Wakey! - Light Outside from VsTheBrain on Vimeo.

this week's song is not just the song. i first heard light outside by wakey!wakey! when watching this video by vs the brain featuring andrew and carissa gallo. how can you not love them? and this video is just too dreamy.

Pizza Weekend

spent some much needed time downtown this weekend after a strange and looong week at work. i didn't quite make it to eastern market like i'd planned so i've gotta try back in the next few weekends. i did, however, make it to we, the pizza, a spot that anyone in the area MUST go to for their homemade sodas. good news is, my love for the city is coming back.

i hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as i.
not really ready for the work week to start back up.

Music / 02

by now, you've all heard the music of lana del rey, who's totally making her big moves right now in the music biz. for most people, you love her or you hate her-- i chose to love! it's something different: a little old school, a little dark, nothing like i've really heard before. there's some dubstep remixes going around youtube of her songs, but the 'video games' remix has made itself my favorite!

Tarai-Seated

i'm a girl who loves my neutrals and minimal design. so i've surprised even myself how much i love these tarai chairs. i want it to be summer, and to have a cute little cafe party in a backyard with these chairs.

InstaMonday

so this week is spring break at my old university and a couple friends came home to DC this weekend! so nice to have some creative blood back in my life! my friend christina, and a new friend, may, and i went to the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn museum. a day of nice weather, a little culture, good food, great company, and warhol! doesn't get any better. i brought my camera along and will share some photos inside the museum later in the week. but here are a few snapshots of the weekend from my instagram.

happy monday!

Music / 01

remember how on the first of school, everyone had to stand up and share a little bit about themselves? yeah. i always hated that day. not only because i consider it small talk (and i hate small talk) but because there is really no describing my personality. as true as one fact is about me on one side of the scale, it's almost always just as true on the complete opposite side. does that make sense? probably not.

the biggest example of this i can give you is my taste in music. you won't ever find someone who can so briskly channel her inside disc jockey from josh garrels to a tribe called quest. i like to think the contents of my itunes is pretty unique.

i want to share a new artist or song with you in week in the hopes that you'll have a new enjoyable tune for the weekend. i hope you'll share a song or two with me, too. i know i'm not the only one sick of the radio. (seriously, WHAT are these kids listening to these days?)

to start off simple, here is the most peaceful of songs ever. enough of my words. relax.

Spoons

out of all my pinterest boards, my kitch board receives the most love. i've been pinning way too many spoons though, and it's becoming a problem.

Field Girl

this is prescilia, one of my dearest friends from college. i miss being at school, with so many friends, and so many people like me. DC just hasn't felt like home since i've been back. all my old friends are in such a different place than i want to be. no one here gets it. i can't wait to visit lynchburg one day soon. i need a fix of friends, mini photoshoots, and a really good thrifting hunt.

photos by me for paper & olives.

Oh, Monday

spent a large portion of my week and weekend taking new stock photos of my cards, and pretty much re-vamping my shop. it was hard to keep up with when i was in school full time and it is no different now with a full time, pretty demanding job. but i enjoy it so it's very much worth it. i also now have a pin board of my work. exciting!

Cara Robbins

haven't come across too many photographers who take portraits quite like cara robbins. everyone these days has a camera and everyone claims to be a photographer, but when you can capture people the way this girl does, you know you've got some talent. it's amazing to look at a photo and feel like you can get a sense of who that person is just by the expressions she is able to catch. i must say she's passed by some pretty unique characters, and i am loving getting a taste of it on her blog.

Sawkille Co.

ever since I downloaded the fab.com app on my phone, I've been checking the sales daily. today's favorite of mine is sawkille co., amazing and modern kitchen furniture, designed by jonah meyer. the collection above is a pretty brilliant mix of farmhouse and high-end. good stuff, huh?

Love All Around

a daily prayer and the ultimate love letter.
this background photo i used was featured in my senior art exhibit.

happy valentine's day.

Ashes/Milk

i'm stuffed. i am so tired of eating and drinking after this weekend! one reason i am always in the kitchen is because i have a teeny tiny obsession with kitchen goods. one of these days, i am sure to be considered a collector. but i can't help it. once i've bought it, i figure "might as well use it."

while pinning i came across one of the images above and immediately linked through to the original website, ashesandmilk.com. amazing. just more things to collect in my kitchen.

Kinfolk

it's hard for me to not post every last photo that was taken during the first kinfolk dinner in portland. i want to put together an event for my friends with this decor and this energy. i hope my friend rebecca wins the seat at the dinner happening in brooklyn!

And I'm Back

i really like this couch. when I saw it, at the thrift store, i knew i had to have it. i didn't know how i would drag it home in my tiny car, but i knew it'd be mine. it was beat up, with a worn, but pretty patina on the seat cushions, and awesome splatters of paint on the arm.
is it weird to say this couch is like me? with a history, but also great potential for a great future (esp with some new handmade throw pillows) i thought graduating college would mean endless freedom to work on the ever-growing list projects and ideas that i never had time for before. but time is daunting! free time means valuable time, time that could be spent allowing my life to stand still, or making choices that will allow my opportunities to grow tremendously.
i'm not sure if this free time is under-inspiring, or over-inspiring. there are so many things I want to do, a laundry list of places i want to go. by the time i sit down to make a blog post, my brain is already on to the next thing, and i am sorry for that!
thank rebecca / a daily something , lisa / hello, suburbia , and lauren / laurenchanting for this post. i met up with them for dinner at dogfish head ale house this weekend and it was amazing! when the internet is such a huge part of your life, it is relieving to have a conversation without having to stop, reverse, and explain so many details to your non-blog friends. (the blogoshpere really makes absolutely no sense to the rest of the world.)

they reminded me about the fun of blogging, and sharing your interest and dreams with the people out there who are like-minded. and if blogging brings to me nothing more than great people like them, then i'm satisfied!
moving forward it will be my best effort to post more regularly. but i want my blog to reflect me, my thoughts, my likes, and my projects, and that honestly just doesn't come every day. my hope is that when i do post, it will be true content. having so many interests does not have to be overwhelming. i just need to make the efforts to do the things i feel will bring me closer to my goals. and i'll try to share as much as possible.
